Trip to Romania
May 4-12, 2018

The opportunity has come to return to Romania next Spring, May 4-12, 2018.

Miranda and I will be joining a team from our church who will be continuing our work with abandoned babies, gypsy villages and at-risk children in the State Group homes. Many of the LIVADA children that I've been in touch with over the past 7 years have grown up and are now living on their own, working or attending school and volunteering their time giving back to the Gypsy children what LIVADA has given to them; the love and hope of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Romania

I write to you to ask for your support through prayer and/or financial means. Whatever the Lord lays on your heart would be a precious gift and so appreciated. We will be visiting with abandoned babies that are left in the local hospital by their parents. Some return home, some stay at the hospital and some are placed in Livada's care at their group home Casa Juliana, where they receive the love and care they need in a Christian environment. These children are in desperate need of hands-on touch. Many spend hours in their cribs, neglected, quickly developing trust issues and falling behind in normal developmental abilities. Livada has a team of volunteers that visit these children on a daily basis to give them the individual care and time that the hospital staff cannot give them. We will be coming alongside them to support and encourage them, as well.

We will return to a few State Group homes where we will get to visit with the children that we met at VBS camp 2 summers ago. Livada has an after school program which provides these kids with meals, education, and most importantly the Gospel of Jesus. These children are orphans who need to know that they are loved by their heavenly Father, even when their earthly parents are not around. They need to know that they have a purpose in life and are not accidents, or mistakes, that they have value and worth. Personally I love to hear their stories and come along side them and pray for them and show them the love they desperately need.

I hope you will partner with Miranda and I and be a blessing to these children as well. We will need to raise upwards of $2,600 for airfare, lodging, and supplies for our programs. Should you choose to support us financially, please fill out the attached form and return it to me. Checks can be made out to IBC. Please put my and/or Miranda's name on the memo line.

Thank you and may God continue to bless you throughout the year.

Love,
Michelle Wells

PS: For more info about Livada Orphan Care, please visit their website at Livada Orphan Care

Above all, we covet your prayers for travel safety, staying healthy, provision of our supplies, and for God to prepare the hearts of these children so they will be open to hearing the Good News of Jesus.

Proverbs 19:17 Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.

James 1:27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

Breaking Seminar
July 14, 2018

A group of students from various ranks attended the Breaking Seminar on Saturday.  Five breaking stations were set up in the Dojo and Kyoshi DeAngelo spent much time providing a detailed overview of general safety and the basic principles of breaking boards.
Students learned many important principles, such as being firmly grounded, how to ensure a strong foundation, how to build on a firm foundation, the characteristics and practical application of impact power and driving power, body alignment, striking techniques, and much more.   ProForce rebreakable boards of four levels of difficulty were provided for students to practice their techniques.  Most students selected hammer or bottom fist and palm heel strike in executing the breaking techniques.  Soon the boards were dropping on the floor in short succession as students improved their skill.

Board Breaking Seminar - Karate

During a pause in the seminar, Kyoshi demonstrated speed striking by holding a board with one hand and then breaking it with a short, but very fast and effective punch.  Later in the seminar, when students had demonstrated their proficiency in breaking one or more of the rebreakable boards, Kyoshi introduced the wooden boards and everyone took advantage of this challenge with enthusiasm.

One of the highlights of the seminar was when Sensei Jim broke six stacked wooden boards with one powerful strike.

Students learned throughout the seminar how many of these martial arts principles reflect spiritual truths from Scripture.  This temporary life that we live is a shadow of what is to come and the lessons we learn from life reflect spiritual truths that we can apply in our life and faith.  Since Jesus is the cornerstone on which the rest of the foundation of our lives is built, we should all be grounded in our faith.  Kyoshi explained that the more you, yourself and your faith are grounded in the foundation of Jesus Christ, the stronger your faith will be, the more power you will have as the Holy Spirit works through you.

Kyoshi ended the seminar on a high note as he explained and demonstrated how he himself applies all the techniques by breaking ten of twelve stacked wooden boards.
